The light of our full moon is bright as it sets this morning.
We’ve watched it grow, and now that growth is complete.
May we understand those aspects of our own lives that have grown with it.
The light of our sun, our blessed life-giver,
It is at its lowest this week, and we’ve long been watching it dim.
These are the longest nights – it is the end of a year.
Let us mark another notch in the belt of our lifespans.
May we understand, truly, what happened to us this year;
Not so we may dwell or brood, not so we may curse the months
(Though we may indeed – curse away!)
But so we don’t miss anything.
There’s not enough time for that.
May we allow no slice of our lives and our year to have passed us by.
May we catch it all.
May we be prepared to meet the end of this year
And the beginning of the next,
With the rest our souls and bodies all require,
With a blessed relaxation of concerns.
May we prepare also for heartiness and merriment,
May we neglect no celebration, no warmth of friend or kin.
May we have a happy solstice and a merry Christmas,
May we bid farewell to whatever this year might have been,
May we rejoice and welcome the new light into the world.
Salaam, salaam. Happy Solstice Week, and Happy End of 2013 – with all sincerity and enthusiasm.
